My name is Judith Morgan and I Iive in the Llynfi Valley, Glamorganshire, South Wales.

Many years before genealogy became popular my grandmother (Hetty Ann Garfield nee Miles) spoke of her Mamgu's (Grandmother's) family.  Mamgu was born Ann Jones at Maesybidia Farm, Abergorlech, Carnarthenshire, Wales and married Dafydd Thomas of Llandybie (Wales) - Dafydd Lllandybie.

We would travel to Mamgu's birthplace in the Brechfa Valley - Maesybidia Farm, Abergorlech (sometimes spelt Maesybidie), Carmarthenshire, Wales and my Grandmother would relate stories, I would hear how Mamgu's brother Ricy Davies Jones emigrated to America followed by his sister Margaret and her family and that her parents were so heartbroken they sent their son John to bring them all home and he to stayed in America.  Then in 1972 I began to start researching family information, my how easier and quicker it is today (2009) with the dawn of the internet and google ! my pages are far from finished and at this time I haven't even reached Mamgu in them !

I've many unanswered questions and would delight in any information even corrections, if have them, please send

them through to me on e-mail judith@fairfieldmotorsport.com

Family history takes you in many different directions and I suppose that makes it even more intriguing.

               Merlin the Welsh Wizard

For many years in Carmarthen Town there stood an old Oak Tree close to were Ann Jones of Maesybidia my great great grandmother was educated in Priory Street and the story told was that when the oak fell so would Carmarthen Town :

                         The Carmarthen Oak

I quote 'Wikipedia'  in local tradition, Carmarthen is said to be the birth place of the mythical magical 'Merlin' claiming that the origin of the name Carmarthen or Caefyrddin (Welsh for Carmarthen) comes from Myddrin, the Welsh name for Merlin.  Merlin is said to have made a prophecy regarding the old oak tree : 'When Merlln's Tree shall tumble down, Then shall fall Carmarthen Town'
